Body Electric Continuing Medical Education

The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center believes the future of good health lies in the awareness and education of Body Electric. Our course initiative is designed to introduce the new advances in this science.

The value of the Center’s education is sharing this knowledge, but if people don’t know how to use the knowledge, its value is diminished. The importance of having a global dialogue lies in the opportunity for many to participate in these discoveries and bring their own value to the exploration.

“My name is Felipe Fregni and I am the Director of The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center.

I am also Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Department of Neurology. I am also the director of Principles and Practice of Clinical Research offered by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

I am very pleased to have the opportunity to create a curriculum on Body Electric — Think Outside the Brain.

I have been fortunate to explore with Spaulding Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, the power of neuroplasticity and the potential of noninvasive stimulation to enhance and to strengthen neural connections and networks. We now recognize that plasticity extends throughout the body and that the idea of compartmentalizing what we call the “mind” as being isolated in the brain is no longer valid. Body Electric promotes the understanding that the mind is the neural integration of the entire mass of neural connections throughout our body. Body Electric is truly Think Outside the Brain.

Over the last eight years, together with other Harvard faculty members, I have had the pleasure to share my interactive online courses in neuroscience and noninvasive neuromodulation to over 2000 professionals and students in 25 countries.

Body Electric Course Curriculum:

The course will introduce Body Electric as an approach to understanding the bioelectric foundation of the entire body. It will illustrate the integration of neurotechnology and neuroscience as a platform to monitor, diagnose, and treat physical and cognitive disabilities. The course will also discuss the most recent exploration and clinical studies in neuromodulation as a means to enhance performance and learning. Programming: To Be Assigned More information coming soon...
This course explores theoretically and clinically the new orientation of Body Electric in neurorehabilitation therapies, as well as in optimizing and strengthening synaptic plasticity as a basis for enhanced learning and performance in healthy individuals. Body Electric Webinars

We are exploring a whole new wave of thought.

I am Leon Morales-Quezada, Associate Research Director of The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center.

I am also an international consultant in pediatric neurological rehabilitation for the Happy Hope Association in Europe and Neocemod for Mexico and South America.

Let me welcome you to Body Electric Webinars — a series designed for anyone interested in learning about the exciting advances in neuromodulation and understanding how the brain and body work together as a bioelectric entity.

Body Electric is the outgrowth of both theoretical and clinical research in the growing field of bioelectricity. Each of us are bodies of natural energy. Our brain, nerves, heart, muscles, gut, and senses are electrical. What does that mean? How does it all work together? And how can we harness this energy to facilitate healing or individual growth and development physically and mentally?

Body Electric Webinars explore these questions. The presentations are designed for the interested individual, student, or professional. Bioelectricity is not a product of the digital age, but has been part of healing history since the Roman physician Scribonius Larus wrote in 46 AD that patients suffering from gout should stand on live black torpedo fish for electric jolts. At The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center we are daily adding to our knowledge in this expansive field that includes neuroscience, neuroplasticity, noninvasive neurostimulation, and neurorehabilitation — it’s all Body Electric.

Clinical Research Global Project

Education — like our mind — is wired by experience and environment.

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

Alvin Toffler Author, Future Shock

The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center believes that clinicians and health care providers must be trained to critically analyze and implement clinical research data in order to provide the best available treatments to their patients.

We are proud to announce that Professor Felipe Fregni, Director of The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center, is disseminating this vital information through The Clinical Research Project.

Professor Fregni, with colleagues throughout the world, has developed a highly interactive platform for clinical research training designed for clinicians and junior scientists. The program also promotes collaborative learning, so that participants from the clinical research courses can teach and exchange ideas with their colleagues.

As of 2015, more than 2000 people have been trained in the Clinical Research Project. Many participants have become very successful clinical researchers and have perpetuated the mission to share this training with colleagues.

Courses:

ppcr   Felipe Fregni, MD, PhD., MMSc, MPH, MEd, Director of The Spaulding-Labuschagne Neuromodulation Center, Harvard Medical School; Associate Professor, Department of Neurology and the Department of Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. The course is one year in duration, and can be followed anywhere in the world through an interactive platform. There are also several live workshops in Boston and Brazil. (See video below of the interactive final workshop.) Principles and Practice of Clinical Research covers the basics of clinical research including:
  • How to formulate a research question
  • Selecting a study population with randomization and blinding and statistical methods
  • Data distribution and classification, statistical tests, sample size calculation, survival analysis, missing data, and meta-analysis
  • Data collection, monitoring, and reporting
  • Training in manuscript writing and Study designs: observational studies, non-inferior and adaptive designs, and randomized clinical trials
